I hear you thinking how this statement above makes sense. None of the silver screen heroes ever breaks a sweat. True thats why they are actors. In the real fencing you do. This is what makes it such an attractive sport if you want to lose weight or become fitter. To give you a comparison with more well known sports. Fencing utilizes a lot of the bodys muscles especially the hips and thy muscles. Fencing is not body building but because of the fast character of the sport muscles in fencing get well trained and well shaped.

You learn to focus and concentrate.

A fencer has to watch every move of his opponent very carefully in order to prepare his own action. The focus and concentration that are needed for this is enourmous. It is not uncommon for fencers not to hear or feel anything when fencing because of the deep focus and concentration. It is something difficult to describe but if you are new to fencing it is something that will increase when you start fencing.
